Hello! Let me introduce myself. My name is Sue, I am 59 years old, I am a paleopathologist, student and teacher and I am a recent amputee.
Never, never, never did I think I would be walking down the path that Life put me on when I had to have my left leg amputated below the knee due to complications from a diabetic foot condition and a raging staph infection. My life was going well, I was a graduate student completing a degree, I was happy and I thought I knew what I was doing and how I was doing it....WRONG!!!! As Jean Houston, the motivational speaker, says "Life is what happens to you when you've made other plans". She was MORE than right on this one.
I am sharing this story to lend support and encouragement to anyone out there who is dealing with a serious illness, life threatening situation or is a caregiver for someone who is. No matter how bad the hand is that you have been dealt, there is a great resource for bringing about recovery and instigating change....YOUR INNER SELF!!!! It IS difficult, but blessings abound. Good friends, family, determination, love, kindness and Spirit...this is what makes it happen. I am an old dog, and these new tricks are not fun...but I am learning! Look within, dig deep, accept help and expect success.
Remember: Change is inevitable, defeat is optional!! |
